Industry & Production - Cosmeva
Cosmeva acquired 7 balers X30 AD with full automatic doors
In order to strengthen its policy for waste recovery, valuation and flow optimization, the manufacturer of cosmetic products Cosmeva invested in 7 Bramidan balers.
Centralized compaction outside was too expensive
Until recently, Cosmeva relied on a complex internal organization for handling its cardboard and plastic waste. Every single production unit was generating a significant amount of cardboard and plastic waste.
Truck lift drivers were fully occupied with collecting waste at every single workshop to bring it outside into compactors and skip containers.
"The back and forth was constant," admits M. Fontaine in charge of the project within the Health, Safety and Environmental department (HSE) of the company. "In addition, the compacted bulky materials did not allow us to have an accurate monitoring of the quantities generated on site," he explains. At last, the lack of selective sorting did not allow Cosmeva to make the biggest profit out of its cardboard and plastic wastes.
Annual savings of 170,000 Euro
At the end of 2013, Cosmeva decided to equip its factory with 7 Bramidan balers model X30 AD (Automatic Door) to optimize internal logistic. "The balers were placed at the production lines with the highest throughput," explains M. Fontaine. "They immediately helped us to increase the efficiency in waste collection on-site from 4 to 1 man."
Each machine produces cardboard bales of min. 300 kg. The bales are stored and collected once per week by full loads. This system has made it possible to reduce transportation and renting costs by 20,000€ per year. At the same time, the company increased the value of their cardboard waste with 100% to over 90€ per ton. Excluding the investment in the 7 balers, the annual savings for Cosmeva are estimated to more than 170,000€.
Lower carbon dioxide emissions
From an environmental point of view, the vertical balers made it possible for reduce carbon emissions, divided by 12 due to the reduction in waste collections. While reducing its internal costs, they also eliminated intermediaries such as traders, and a direct dialogue between paper manufacturers and Cosmeva was established.
The balers helped us increase the efficiency in waste collection on-site by going from 4 to 1 person.
